Why now?
From a bold past…
In 1946 — amidst echoes of a world war, a shortage of teachers and building supplies, and prejudice dividing Americans of different religions and races — Burgundy’s founders put their hearts into creating a new kind of school, one with the most holistic learning framework they could devise.
With courage grounded in hope, they envisioned a better future. Among a caring and diverse community, they built a school where children, surrounded in nature, could follow their curiosity, feel safe to explore, and grow together in a collaborative learning environment.
As Virginia’s first integrated school, Burgundy committed to the strength found in diversity and the shared humanity that brings us together. Today, with division and uncertainty deepening at home and abroad, the challenges of our school’s formative years are familiar again. Our planet, our community, and our discourse are in need of thoughtful stewardship. This is our moment to recommit to Burgundy’s mission!
To a bright future…
It is our turn to clear the path, to blaze a new trail — our turn to pen the next big chapter in Burgundy’s history and Burgundy’s impact in the world.
